Understanding natural wallcoverings

Natural wallcoverings aren't printed with a repeating pattern, so there's nothing to “match” across a seam. Each drop is an individual length of hand-woven fibre, hung edge to edge — which means the seams are meant to be visible, and the weave and shade shift subtly from one panel to the next.

That isn't a fault, and it isn't a sign of a poor install — it's the defining characteristic of a genuine natural material. A printed wallpaper hides its joins; grasscloth, sisal, silk and linen wear theirs honestly. A skilled installer works withthis — hanging each length the way the material is made to hang (most of our naturals go up the same way every time), checking every roll against the last, and joining each seam cleanly — but no one can make a natural wallcovering read as a single, seamless, pattern-matched sheet, because that simply isn't what it is.

If a flawless, pattern-matched finish is the goal, a printed non-woven is the better material — and we'll happily point you to one. Choose a natural, and the seams and variation are part of what you're buying.
